An exciting giveaway featuring a book from famous Indian Chef Sanjeev Kapoor! We giving away 4 copies of his book "Sanjeev Kapoor Low Calorie Vegetarian Cookbook".

Sanjeev Kapoor Logo

Though Khazana of Healthy Tasty Recipes is full of well balanced low calorie recipes but there were many who could not quite relate to the title ‘Healthy Tasty Recipes’ and still asked for ‘Low Calorie Recipes’.

This compilation therefore is the result of the demand and need for a book on ‘Vegetarian Low Calorie Recipes’.  Sedentary life styles and virtually no time to exercise forces many to go in for foods that are low calories. Added to this is the general understanding is that to lose weight or to maintain a steady weight one has to depend on low calorie food. Great care has been taken to ensure that while the recipes are low calorie, their taste does not suffer.

Though the recipes here have been chosen from in and out of India, they have all been altered to suit the Indian taste.  Some of the exoticas that can be found in this book are  Creamed Pumpkin and Apple Soup, Vegetable Fried Rice with Herbs, Cyprus Tomato Soup, Orange Broccoli, Slimmer’s Salad in No Oil Dressing, Kesari Phirni which will give a fair idea of the treasures that can be found within its covers.

Contest: Comment to Win 3 Bags of Julie Anne Granola

We are excited to announce this tasty giveaway with our friend Julie Anne, who blogs at Peanut Butter Julie, also a member of the Foodie Blogroll! She is giving away lots of bags of her yummy granola!

From her page at Foodzie: "At Julie Anne’s, we prepare every batch of our all-natural granola by hand, using only the best ingredients: Vermont maple syrup, whole rolled oats, orange blossom honey, and pure vanilla extract. Featuring an addictive blend of crunchy, nutty clusters and plump dried fruit, each of our unique flavors make the perfect topping for your morning yogurt as well as a healthy sweet snack straight out of the bag!"

Here are some of Julie's wonderful granola recipes:

  • Sweet Citrus Granola:  Sweet Citrus is my original granola flavor and one that I have been making for years. Inspired by a Creamsicle, this crunchy clustered granola features pure vanilla extract and orange zest, toasted almonds, coconut, tart dried cranberries, and golden raisins.
  • Maple Blueberry Granola: Maple Blueberry was inspired by the summers that I used to spend in New Hampshire as a child. Blueberries grew in abundance, so we always had a fresh supply to mix into pancakes topped with locally produced maple syrup.
  • Tropical Bliss Granola: Take a bite and close your eyes. Suddenly, you are whisked off to an exotic tropical island. Offering a medley of fresh bananas, coconut, cashews, and pineapple in each crunchy bite, Tropical Bliss is the newest addition to the Julie Anne's Granola family.

Prize
4 lucky winners (one per week) will receive three bags of granola, one of each flavor. A large cereal bowl from Pottery Barn, for enjoying your granola. Contest: Comment to Win a copy of Stuffed Nation Book

We are excited to announce this giveaway in partnership with Hank Cardello  author or "STUFFED: An Insider’s Look at Who’s (Really) Making America Fat".

Food policy is a very important and heated topic these days. You hear about it in the news, and the popularity of books like Michael Pollan's Omnivore's Dilemma and In Defense of Food, as well as Barbara Kingslover's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and Nina Planck's book Real Food really shows a trend of consumers being more and more concerned about the food we eat.

With this wave of books, comes Hank Cardello's book "Stuffed: An Insider’s Look at Who’s (Really) Making America Fat", where he discusses from an insider's perspective (he is a former food executive turned anti-obesity exponent) and offers solutions for how this trend can be changed. He provides novel but concrete steps food companies can take to fatten their profits while slimming down their customers. In addition, he stresses the realistic role that consumers must play in America’s new health equation, explaining that unless they demand healthier food with their wallets, America will continue to tip the scales for years to come.

With this month giveaway, we want to spread the word and our concerns about food policy in the US (and the world over).

Recently, the New York Times and U.S. News & World Report have covered Hank's solutions to America's overweight and obesity crisis. See links below:

Oh, those kidishes sound great! I'm such a klutz, lol =/. As a kid I definitely would have eaten Nesquick cereal out of them, it would have been so cool to see the cereal puffs floating in the milk from all different angles! Now I would eat some type of marbelled pudding or something out of them, so I could see all the patterns made by marbelling on the sides. Or maybe something layered. Or, you know, some Nesquick cereal floating in milk =P. ~Kurious Kitteh
